RESEARCH PROGRAM

The research is to take place in the Aerodynamics laboratory of The Krylov State Research Centre (St. Petersburg, Russia).

Stage 1 – Study of the wind power plant model with a single fixed position of the blades. The technical report will be released on the research results.

1.1. Manufacture of the wind power plant model with 4 variants of airflow vortex concentrator. The manufacture time is about 1-1.5 months. The cost is about €12,000.
1.2. Measurement of the rotation speed of the rotor's axis and of the torque on the rotor's axis depending on the angle and velocity of the airflow for the 4 variants of the airflow vortex concentrator. The choice of an optimum variant of the airflow vortex concentrator. The cost is about €25,900.
1.3. Visualization of the airflow on the vortex concentrator selected by the point 1.2. results, depending on the angle of the air flow. The cost is about €1,700.
1.4. Measurement of the velocity field inside the wind power plant model, depending on the airflow angle and radius in the working zone, with a circular change of the working sector position. The cost is about €10,300.
1.5. Comparison of the efficiency of our wind power plant with a vertical axis and a traditional wind power plant with a horizontal axis with the same diameter of the rotor at different wind speeds. The cost - €0.
1.6. Measurement of the forces applied to one wind directing element of the vortex concentrator, depending on the airflow angle and velocity. The cost is about €3,400.

Total for Stage 1: The term is about 2,5 - 3,5 months (pure time). Cost is about €53,300.
Based on the positive studies results at the Stage 1, we move to the Stage 2.

Stage 2 - Research of the wind power plant model with different positions of the blades, both in the pitch angle and radius. The technical report will be released on the research results.

2.1. Measurement of the rotation speed of the rotor's axis and of the torque on the rotor's axis at various values of the pitch angle of the blades depending on the angle and the velocity of the airflow. Term and cost are comparable with those of the point 1.2. of the 1st Stage for the equal amount of measurement cycles.
2.2. Measurement of the rotation speed of the rotor's axis and of the torque on the rotor's axis at various positions of the blades (the rods with the blades are retracted simultaneously into the hub of the turbine with the fixed step) depending on the angle and the velocity of the airflow. Term and cost are comparable with values of the point 1.2. of the 1st Stage for the equal amount of measurement cycles.
2.3. Measurement of the rotation speed of the rotor's axis and of the torque on the rotor's axis at various configurations of the blades (the rods with the blades are not retracted simultaneously into the hub of the turbine) depending on the angle and velocity of the air flow. Term and cost are comparable with values of the point 1.2. of the 1st Stage for the equal amount of measurement cycles.
2.4. Additional research (optional) on the mutual influence of the wind power plants depending on their position relative to the wind direction and the distance between them.
2.5. Additional research (optional) on the optimal geometry of the turbine blades and the vortex concentrator.

Total for Stage 2: The term is about 2 – 3 months (pure time). The cost of the Stage 2 will be determined after stage 1.

Based on studies’ results of the 2nd Stage, а turbine blades control algorithm will be created for the automatic wind power plant monitoring and control system.
